3D Print Farm Showdown

Watch on YouTube

There are so many parts of this video that I love. Like the Lulzbot 3D silent card treatment and “OH MY GOSH” from across the room” moment. Will that translate to views? Only time will tell. And speaking of time, there sure is a lot of it in this video. I don’t normally let a video run much more than 10 minutes, but I’m told longer form content is where it’s at these days, so let’s see what happens with nearly 30 minutes of videos.

I did, of course, add time stamps so people can jump around if they want.

While I didn’t mention them by name, I’m sure someone in the comments is going to point out that every single one of these is better than Slant3D. Even the “a dude with a 3D printer” options.

I cut my finger while opening these boxes. You may notice a bandaid in the B-Roll, and a bandaid for most of the video, but not at the start. See if you can guess which box opening I cut my finger on.

The next PrintAQuest expansion will take place in a swamp, a bit like the fire swamp from the Princess Bride. It’s providing quite a challenge from the first set of brick walls where I had to worry about walls and corners and T-junctions and how the all interact, this one is much more freeform. but I still have to figure out what a 2 high and 2 wide wall will look like. This is allowing me to do trees and vines and all kinds of fun things. In addition, it will have 2 types of floor terrain, ground and water. I’m having to set those up so the tokens can sit flat despite there being a lot of verticality in their textures. Plus, gameplay, I’ve now got to write rules for walking through water, making players have to decide if they’re going to walk through water, or around it. It’s being quite the interesting challenge and I’m enjoying it.
